Selim's Project
On the Other Side
A troubled teenager from the projects of East Berlin sets out on
a quest to find his lost father and is being confronted with his
own racist prejudices, when he finds out his father is actually an
immigrant with his own family.
This story is loosely based on facts, as previous to the fall of
the Berlin Wall, there were about 6000 day visas per day taken by
Turkish men with families in West Berlin, who had affairs on the
other side in Communist East Berlin. The results after the
reunification were family dramas and a generation of kids growing
up in the East without knowing their real fathers.
