Simon Beaufoy is the writer of the multiple-oscar-winning
Slumdog Millionaire and The Full Monty, as well
as other films including Miss Pettigrew Lives For, and
A Day Among Giants, and This Is Not A Love Song;
Simon Beaufoy (born in Worth Valley, 1967) came to prominence as
the writer of the hugely successful comedy of working-class life,
The Full Monty (UK/US, d. Peter Cattaneo, 1997), showing
an acute ear for nuances of pain, scabrous humour and poignancy. He
worked a similar vein to less effect in the unlikely romance Among
Giants (d. Sam Miller, 1998), written before Monty, but is a talent
to be watched when his feeling for people and place is fully
engaged. He is the co-founder of Footprint Film, 1994, which has
produced much TV. His last Oscar nomination was in January 2011 for
the breathtaking 127 hours, once again directed
and co-written by Danny Boyle.
